All that we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about

The connection session of the office account got stuck again. While the admin is calling the ISP to kill it. I took my time organizing my desktop. Reading whatever that needs to be read and put it away in some folder (which soon to be forgotten) for archiving purposes.
One of these files were a powerpoint slide of Jeff Atwood’s presentation at CUSEC 2008. There’s a slide that I can relate to a condition or situation that I’m going through thats getting me depressed for quite a while (a week or two) which is affecting my performance at work (coming in late, getting sick and oversleept most of the time). I had zero motivation to go to work except for paying the bills. And the boss nagging me all the time doesn’t help.
"All I wanted to do was share my passion for computers with everyone else. I had no outlet at work, so I turned to the internet."
I had forgotten why I wrote this blog. I was derailed (by being depressed and shit), and forgotten that I have a way to rant, which is through my blog.
In the office, I’m the only programmer (my boss programs too, but he uses funny dreamweaver stuffs called Adobe Developer Toolbox, which I avoid from using). When there’s no one to share ideas with, I get bored easily and unmotivated in the long run.
"Enthusiasm is more important than talent."
I have to fully agree with that statement. Quote from Charles Kingsley "We act as though comfort and luxury were the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us really happy is something to be enthusiastic about."
So, in summary of the presentation of Jeff Atwood at CUSEC 2008.
1. Work for a software company. (current)
2. Take insane risks while you’re young. (done, going to try again in 2-3 years)
3. Don’t settle. Move to where the best opportunities are. (done, willing to for big companies)
4. Enthusiasm is more important than talent. (agree)
5. Cultivate all the skills that go with programming. (trying to)
6. BLOG! (trying to)
Now I have to go and write up some admin guideline for cyberjaya.gov.my! :\
