jCarousel modified

Ok, I’m back from phasing out while doing my work and the M&M’s helped by distracting me from falling asleep. Few days ago, I modified jCarousel to look something like a flash slideshow from Henstudio. But instead of a flash thing, its jQuery! Yeay!
There’s a bit of a background flaw above the Project Showcase. I’ll fix it later. Currently trying to adapt a PHP & MySQL-centric web application to be able to use MSSQL. SQLExpress doesn’t have DTS (Data Transformation Services), what a poor way in promoting a product. They should make it easy, to port/dump from other databases, it would greatly reduce the overhead it takes to try their product.
Textscrolling Stuffs..
Posted by mkhairul - February 27, 2008 at 10:02:10 am - No CommentsCategories: AJAX
Its been a long time since I wrote anything about work (mostly code stuffs). Most of it are trivial stuffs and need not mentioned here. New company website is going to be launch soon. So.. I need to do a news ticker kind of thing, using jCarousel as a textscroller. Created an RSS feed page and implemented the jCarousel textscroller with few modifications.

Well, I didn’t pass Google’s phone interview. Better luck next time!
Pro-Tour Kuala Lumpur
An amazing event. I entered the Amateur Challenge and Tribal on Saturday. At first I thought the Amateur would be full of new players but I was wrong. Lots of strong players are in. Overall I played 11 rounds. 5 rounds of Amateur Challenge (win 2, loss 3) and 6 rounds of Tribal (3 wins and 3 losses).
Amateur Challenge
1st Round, paired with a friend from a local FNM. He uses a tempo fairy deck. I use my merfolk deck (an exception of 2 Spiketail Drakeling). Oona’s Prowler, Vendillion Clique, Scion of Oona, Spellstutter sprite and most probably Notorious Throng. 1st match, I beat him up with my merfolk, 3 lords in play. 2nd match he beat me up. 3rd match, with my life on 3 and his life on 2 (he have more creatures than me), I top decked Psionic Blast. Win 2-1.
2nd Round, fought a rogue deck. Ridiculously fast and my hand is horrible while fighting him. Not much synergy. He attacked and prowled and used Earwig Squad, in which he removes my Lord of Atlantis. 1st match bad moons squads and beatdown!, opponent won, 2nd match I won, 3rd match he removed oblivion rings with the squad. Loss 1-2.
3rd Round, fought a familiar face from the local FNM. He uses a rogue deck and I was lucky, my hand was very good. I beat him up 2-0 really fast. He dropped out.
4th Round, fought a mannequin deck. Main engine is merfolk looter and bonded fetch. Discards and retrieves the big creatures (bogardan hellkite and Akroma, Angel of Wrath). 2nd match he side-boarded Teferi’s Moat and my creatures can’t do anything. Loss 0-2.
5th Round, I can’t remember who I fought, was too hungry after I loss I dropped it, registered for the tribal and went for my lunch.
Tribal Match!
1st Round, fought with a merfolk deck (I’m using merfolk too), but this one is one of those expensive one with Ancestral Vision and Cryptic Commands. Lost, bad hand, bad luck, what can i say? 0-2.
2nd Round, fought with an elemental deck. Very nice combo, Have to early kill smokebraider or else you’re in one hell of a pain. Uses flamekin harbinger to bring out nova chaser / incandescent soulstoke and uses Heat Shimmer to copy nova chaser dealing 20 dmg in one turn. Lots of burn to slow down any aggro deck’s momentum. Lost 0-2
3rd Round, I got a BYE. Auto win.
4th Round, fought with my friend. He uses elf deck. My hand is unbeatable. Ran him over with TEH MERFOLKSSS!. Won 2-0.
5th Round, fought with a warrior elf deck. Fought veraciously and ended his life with a psionic blast. 2nd Match, I got 1 creature and 3 Rune Snags. Hah! 2nd turn he casts in Bramblewood Paragon, 3rd turn tried to cast Imperious Perfect which got snagged. I dropped in spiketail drakeling. He tried to cast another creature, counter. 5th turn tried to cast Chameleon Colossus, countered!. Tried to cast garruk, countered! When I have 5 mana in play, I killed his bramblewood with a psionic blast which cleared the table. Countered his second chameleon colossus, which puts the total of Rune Snag in graveyard to 4 (All 4 came!). Put in Reejerey, LoA and some other creeps FTW! Won 2-0.
6th Round, fought a local FNM player. He showed me the superiority of Sudden Spoiling. Brought my creatures down to its knees. Very powerful. Lost 1-2.
All in all, nice matches. Got to know lots of deck. And how to deal with it. But still luck plays the most important part (and maybe more money could help).
FNM @ Manawerx

Last night went for an FNM at SS14. Bought 4 Rune Snags and 3 Faerie Trickery. I had no confidence in my millfolk so I changed back to merfolk aggro.
1st round - Fought with Blue black deck, with riftwing cloudskate hitting me with loxodon warhammer. only 3 lands came out, couldn’t last long enough to kill and Mana screw. Second match. Good hand, and then no creatures came out, lots of counters came out but no creatures. Only lands. 0-2. Should have shuffled properly and mulligan. 1 table shuffle and the combining shuffle thing. And judge of currents to keep me alive. Right now games that stretch doesn’t seem favorable to me.
2nd round - Dragonstorm! I have no trickbind. Killed most of my creatures with direct damage and finishes off with Dragonstorm. 2nd match. Good hand, and opponent have bad hand. Killed him off before he got any combos going. 3rd Match. Good hand, but my timing was off, I shouldn’t have cast Mirror Entity early (should wait until I have enough mana to boost all my creatures to become 2/2 and attacked). If I waited with mirror entity in hand, he would’ve been more relaxed and gave me a go and I could’ve killed him with one swing. He killed all my creatures with direct damage and grapeshot storm (sorcery). 1-2
3rd round - Reveillark. Infinite life combo and infinite bounce combo. I felt both. Lost 0-2. I should’ve put more counters especially Declaration of Naught to lock down all his combos. 1st lock down Venser so he couldn’t bounce my DoN. Next, lock down reveillark / body double whichever I see fit and lastlyl mirror entity. Faerie Trickery should be used to lock down reveillark. And tormod’s crypt (after DoN have come into play and named Venser).
After 3 weeks in a row without any wins. I felt fucking depressing. But hey, "I get knocked down but I get up again, you’ll never gonna keep me down!" (Chumbawamba). Keep up the professional attitude and keep on playing!
Phone interview with Google..
Posted by mkhairul - February 13, 2008 at 09:02:44 am - 3 CommentsCategories: blog
Today I received a call from Google Technical Recruiter about an opportunity at Google. I’m afraid I didn’t do too well, the position that’s available is for System Administrator, my knowledge on it is a bit rusty because I wouldn’t be interested in being a Sys Admin anywhere in Malaysia but with Google, thats a different story, think of the possibilities! The resources at my disposal!
So, I can’t answer most of the questions but I would’ve answered it correctly if I was still doing sys admin jobs today. Argh!. :(
Whole night sleeping..

I went home on Monday (11th February 2008) and straight went to bed. I felt awfully tired, I don’t know why. Woke up at 7 in the morning felt refreshed. I think its the first time I ever dreamed anything in the past 3 weeks (not a good dream, someone puts roaches in my shoes and I spent whole day just getting it all out).
So anyway, I didn’t fall asleep in front of my workstation on Tuesday and hoped that long sleep cured my sleeping disorder.
Sleepiness..
Posted by mkhairul - February 11, 2008 at 02:02:40 pm - No CommentsCategories: blog
Lately I’ve been sleeping too much. Maybe its because of the very cold environment in my office or lack of motivation. But still, falling asleep while typing is annoying especially when there’s a long string of A’s or B’s. I thought it was an EDS (Excessive Daytime Sleepiness), but anyhoo, I must test my blood and see whats going on.
End of this week, Pro Tour KL will be held at KLCC. Can’t wait to test my deck. Hopefully I’ll win.
