Work, and more work

Ok, magic things aside. Lots of work are coming in, mostly from friends of friends. But still another good opportunity to exercise my rusted skills and start to enjoy what I’m doing. 1 Website and 1 Flash presentation, not much but a start.
I read a post on Cusec 2008 which leads me to PixID (Image Monitoring Service). It recognizes images on the web from the original even though the picture is heavily altered (royalty purposes etc). Very interesting.
The title that caught my attention was from a Reddit post using the title "Don’t be a corporate programmer. They demand all of your creativity and trust
none of your judgment.". Yeah, even though I’m currently working in a small company, I felt like that. Its not that I can’t do it, but its just so damn boring without anyone to talk to about ideas and stuffs and deathly chilling aircond switches me into hibernation mode which results in me sleeping and my boss tell me off about sleeping in the office.
Right now, I’m transferring the data from a MySQL database to a SQL Server Express. I’m doing it the hard way, converting it table by table. If it was a few years back, I’d be doing script which recursively go through the database searching the tables and insert it into the target database. But it can’t be help, I’m in a state of apathy. *sigh* Hopefully it’ll end if I win wednesday night’s Friday Night Magic!
What is my color?

Take the Magic: The Gathering ‘What Color Are You?’ Quiz.
Don’t believe everything it tells you. I somehow knew the answers that will lead me to the color blue.
Anyway, I’d like to use Blue and Black. But my current deck is a merfolk deck using Blue and White. Not yet complete but quite strong. A few tweaks and practices against other type will surely weed out its obvious weaknesses.
MtG, post tourney

I went to the Midvalley for Magic the Gathering Morningtide Pre-release tournament. I lost 14 rounds out of 16 rounds. Bad luck, bad timing, you name it. One of the biggest factors is, the lack of experience. A very experienced friend of mine won 16 out of 16.
I spent 3 hours creating a new nice budget elemental deck. I use the cards that I have, and planned to buy a few that I dont. Its a R/U elemental deck. Main ingredients are Brighthearth Banneret, Sunflare Shaman, Simian Spirit Guide, Soulbright Flamekin and some other cards that I can’t remember. Sideboarded with green, white elementals, sudden shock for blue control decks and some other direct damage.
I tested it on my own and I managed to create a few combos that’ll allow me to put 5 creatures from hand in turn 3. I’ll need some R/B land (Auntie’s Hovel) or R/W land for oblivion ring sideboard and creature removal sideboard.
Can’t wait to playtest it tonight.

I can’t help it, around 10 am till 11 am, I just fall asleep. Even when I went to bed early the night before. Thankfully I didn’t type any game related words like Attack, Patrol or Mystic Staff or something.
How software companies die

Some software company dies, but some just doesn’t seem or refuse to die. Perseverance against all odds. Recruiting new people and accumulating technical debts. Against all this, it survives. I don’t know what should I call this, if its good management, programmers won’t leave. They just give them enough to put them in a comfort zone, preventing them from leaving. But still, good programmers see through this and leave. Mediocre won’t leave, afraid that they can’t land a job later.
Taking Naps

Can’t keep my eyes open, all the words all the html elements looks so blurry, few seconds passed and I realized I was facing down on my table. I guess its just natural to feel drowsy when noon draws near. I remembered a few weeks ago, 5 Reasons to Take Naps. Its already noon, after brief discussion about the functionality of a website I’m building here at work, I’m gonna take a POWER nap for about 30 minutes. Oh yeah, my cellphone alarm is set so hopefully it wont drag too long.
A Week Missed and Forgotten

I’ve been missing in action for a week. Most of the time spent on finishing up on my reading list, put on astro, went to driving instructions course (KPP) and some MtG (magic the gathering) match with friends, and watching lots of One Piece episodes. I bought a lot of boosters and tournament packs for MtG. *sigh*
I didn’t finish up Masjid & Surau. This week is it!. I can’t delay it anymore! Gotta get myself together!
