Of Version Controls and such..

Beautiful morning, fine fine day.

Lets start with a quote from Da Vinci.

"Study without desire spoils the memory, and it retains nothing that it takes in."

Yesterday, I was browsing the web, my routine activity, and stumbled on a very very nice article. Opened my eyes to a lot of things. Version Control for Linux, even though the title explicitly says linux, there’s bound to be a windows port in some of the mentioned RCSes in the article.

Architectures.. yes.. architectures. There’s two kind, centralized vs distributed and snapshot vs changeset models (snapshot and changeset, is a little bit non trivial for me, have to read it again). From the article, I realized the importance of a distributed repositories. In this time and age, we got to keep moving, keep up with people. Do stuffs when we least expected. Distributed fills in this gap. FILLS IT GOOD!.

Bazaar CVS

Distributed caught my interest. I went looking for RSC that uses this kind of repositores. First thing I bumped into is Bazaar VCS. I was reluctant to change to this stuff at first, I was comfortable with it, but this looks promising. I even tried my best to look for alternatives using SVN without me going to Bazaar. There’s  some interesting stuffs for SVN, high-level tools. Of all the tools there, SVK and Collaboa (but collaboa uses Ruby) caught my interest.

Dont forget to check out RCS Comparisons!.

Diagrams? Anyone? ANYONE HAVE DIAGRAMS?!

So.. I’m here at a friend’s Cybercafe. Ghost some harddrives and stuffs. The PCs are in horrible shape. They’re slowly dying. The PC layouts are also horrible.. PC1 there.. PC6 over there.. and so on.

Also.. there’s lots of stuffs need to be fixed, maintained. It’ll take at least 5 years to break even with the cost of buying this CC. I’m just helping.. but not too much, dont want to get attached with this.

So.. back to my point, the PCs are in chaos. Not organized. I remembered about Microsoft Visio. So that I can layout the PCs, write down whats wrong with them.. and ease the burden. Visio.. such a big proggie. I googled for alternative, usually Dia pops up. But Dia.. is not very good. Browsed a bit more, found a collection of links (not many, just 2 links) from a del.icio.us user, on visio alternatives.

There were two.

  1. Gliffy
  2. Diagram Studio

Gliffy was ok. But I’m not always online.

Diagram Studio was perfect, but was waaaaay toooo expensive for someone like me.

Searched for more, not much pops up. But something pops.. and looks very familiar, CADE, which was free(YAY FOR FREE ALTERNATIVES!). It looks exactly like Diagram Studio, I dont know which, but I think someone is copying someone else.

druppel!

drupal

I am still using drupal. Building sites and such. Still it is a fucking pain in the neck doing all the coding without being able to go online. Still no phone line at my house. Wonder when the phone guy will be coming..

Still drupal is very nice. I’m still not used to it. Even though its sloppy, its usable for the time being. Whenever I get the chance, I find stuffs about drupal.

Found a thread discussing drupal and mambo. Quote

"Drupal is more usable for developers who set up web sites (more
configurable, better code/APIs etc), while Mambo is more usable for
not-very-technical people managing their own website (graphical
everything, not too complicated, etc)."

Towards Fascism

Categories: blog

I found an interesting article on digg.com, titled Welcome to Fascist America!. Interesting as it is, most of it is true. Read about its comments on digg.

This is one step towards chaos. Thats why we need a constitutional monarchy. For instance, thailand, even though its ruled by a Prime Minister, the army is still under the king. The prime minister / president cant do as they please, someone can still keep them in check.

List of 1930s style fascism (from Welcome to Fascist America):

  • Secret prisons - they’re back!
  • Torture - we’re doing it.
  • Spying on all citizens.
  • Arrests and indefinite imprisonment without trial.
  • Rampant militarism.
  • Secret detention.
  • Enforced disappearance.
  • Denial and restriction of habeas corpus.
  • Prolonged incommunicado detention.
  • Unfair trial procedures.

Comments on digg

Some fascist characteristics(from Wikipedia) of the Bush and Republican Party:

  • a militarist, nationalist and xenophobic ideology

  • attempts to impose state control over all aspects of life: political, social, cultural, and economic

  • explicit populist rhetoric and propaganda techniques applicated from crowd psychology

And many more.
