Posted by mkhairul - September 29, 2006 at 09:09:58 pm - 2 CommentsCategories: blog
Yes, I have formatted my pc, got rid of windows 2000 and installed windows XP. All for the sake of heroes… Company of Heroes. Still.. before this when I just got the PC parts, I wanted to install windows XP, but it stuck in 39 minutes. I thought it’ll remain there forever.
I was watching TV3 on syoktv, http://syoktv.net/chtv3.html (works only in IE), while watching I did my work, suddenly I CANT CUT & PASTE! WTF?!, I looked at clipbrd.exe… tried to start clipbook in services.msc (failed to start) all to no avail.
I remembered, this is windows, there must be some sort of problem with IE. I closed IE. And BEHOOOOLD! Problem solved!
100% Height! CSS and what not.

I was looking for a way to make the viewport of a site to become 100% thus filling the browser. But I cant seem to make it do so. I searched at google css page height 100%. Tons of methods shown but none works.
Frustrated, I asked a friend. How? She also uses google, but different people use it differently, maybe she searched it using different word / keywords. But the important thing is, she found a page which contains the solution. 100% Table Height.
The site also explains "Why Percentage Height Fails". Nice resource. I’ll note it in my wiki.

Ampersands (&’s) in URLs
Posted by mkhairul - September 19, 2006 at 09:09:27 am - No CommentsCategories: Development
As I was checking the site, I checked the valid XHTML button at the sidebar to the right, and the validator says my site isnt valid.
Uh-oh…
So I checked what it was… apparently, & (ampersand) symbol isnt allowed in URLs in the html. And kindly enough, the w3c validator points out sites to find out more about this.
Ampersands, PHP Sessions and Valid HTML
Those two links above have most of what needs to be known.
One Language Does Not Fit All

I should’ve used this as an argument for an interview with
uninformed interviewers / programmers. This is basically true,
programming languages are just tools. Use it as you see fit in a
situation. Perl for regex/string manipulation intensive applications,
etc.
If you see an interviewer who knows many languages, it is an
advantage as he is not fanatical of certain languages, he sees what
fits and what does not. *sigh*
Maybe one day, there will be a language that fits all. When there’s ghosts (Ghost in the shell) who roams the net. Machine Spirit.. But I doubt it’ll come anytime soon.
This is an excerpt taken from Programming Python, 3rd Edition, published on 2006.
One Language Does Not Fit All
Many traditional languages implicitly encourage homogeneous,
single-language systems. By making integration complex, they impede the use of
multiple-language tools. As a result, instead of being able to select the right
tool for the task at hand, developers are often compelled to use the same
language for every component of an application. Since no language is good at
everything, this constraint inevitably sacrifices both product functionality and
programmer productivity.
Until our machines are as clever at taking directions as we are
(arguably, not the most rational of goals), the task of programming won’t go
away. But for the time being, we can make substantial progress by making the
mechanics of that task easier. This topic is what I want to talk about now.
LOTR: Battle For Middle-Earth 2

There’s some sort of craze going on… it is BFME2! I dont know why they all like it, I think its the influence from the movie trilogy. There’s lots of balance issues. Nevertheless, I lack strategy in fighting a medium AI so I went looking for a strategy guide at gamefaqs.com. Most of it is crap.
I searched for moooooreeeeee! I tried looking in EA’s BFME2 forum. I was quite surprised at the amount of gibberish there. It nearly overwhelmed the good post that I was trying to find. I found another site, GameReplays.org. The strategies in the forum is amazingly resourceful.
Madfred’s strategy was quite informative. An eye opener for me as a new player.
Attention to Detail?

As I mentioned earlier, there’s been quite a gap between my post. Its been a slow week, the mouse I’m using currently hurts my hand. Yeeeaaarrggghh!
There’s an interesting article at digg, well.. not at digg at Software by Rob: Developer Interview Questions: Testing Attention to Detail.
I dont know how to say this.. I am very nervous at interviews. As a matter of fact, I hate it, especially those that involved sitting in a room with two people.. being asked all kinds of questions and other sorts of stuffs, its like I did something wrong. It should be informal.. simulate a working environment.. get to know people.. see how they are like in a working environment.. but that would require lots of efforts. Kind of a huge drawback.
