Motherboard - second thoughts and confirmed!
Posted by mkhairul - July 31, 2006 at 12:07:47 pm - No CommentsCategories: Troubleshoot
Uh-oh, my motherboard is still not yet replaced. I cant replace it on my own, I dont have the bling bling for it.
A friend told me, there could be other cause for the problem, maybe its the other hardware (RAM, Graphics Card, PCI Peripherals) that may cause the PC to shutdown suddenly. Static electricity? Hrmm, so I tried all he told me, put all those stuffs in a static bag and let it discharged (I put all parts in different bags, mind you). After that I put it back in, still there’s a problem, so.. it is confirmed! STUPID MOBO!
Old motherboards defunct caused by leaking capacitors. Mine, I dont know the problem, I’ll just assume its magic.
I was just browsing the net looking for failed caps, found a blog with interesting information and apparently there was a big scandal involving failed capacitors and mobos.
Apparently some fellow in Japan stole the formula to the electrolyte they use in capacitors, and took it to a company in Taiwan. He got the formula wrong however, and all of these cheap capacitors made using it are prone to blowing up. Becaues of this a good deal of the motherboards manufactured between 1999 and 2001 have these faulty capacitors.
Look! My previous blog have been successfully imported!

Yeay! I’ve imported my previous blog, fragmentation no more, centralized it is. My archives list are long, quite long. Hehe.
FYI, you can import your blog, if you’re using wordpress or myblog.com.my, just go into your dashboard (login first la), under MANAGE, there’s an option for IMPORT, select your previous blog and i think its automated after you selected your blog category (I previously use blogger.com, its quite limited thats why I changed).
Tiring week…

Been 3 days since I’m back behind a PC. Very tired. Mind and body kind of tired, mind tired of the mundane waiting times, body and most of all - feet, tired of walking around and commisioning the PCs. This took place in putrajaya. The rest of it is classified. Muahahahaa.
So anyway, back on my feet. Arrived at the office and my damn PC’s motherboard is defunct. WTH, just when I was about to do some work (actually I was going to play Dota and after that some real work), the just PC shuts down. It was the motherboard, not the OS, not some virus. I’ve tested through and I’m convinced.
Tomorrow I’ll be standing-by for the putrajaya job, offsite standby.
Not much is accomplished today….

From morning to evening, hanging out… looking around at kompleks jabatan perdana menteri. Nothing much done. I thought I was assigned to ONLY backup the linux servers but later I was told to help the team with comissioning and decomissioning of the PCs.
Tomorrow will be a challenge for me I think. Hopefully nothing goes wrong. But then again
Murphy’s Law "If anything can go wrong, it will"
Other than that, a front asked my opinions on a journal. The title:
Imagine the world before there were motorized vehicles. Write a short description of daily life without automobiles, buses, airplanes, etc.
Here’s what I wrote. Just a little bit though as a guideline.
Ye olde Tale
It was morning, I have to get up early less I miss the festivities the market offers this day. Furthermore, the market is 30 minutes walk from home.
I walked beside the road, safer than middle where the horses thundering by with all their strength. Still it is not without woes for the dust stir the airs as they past by, stinging my eyes and bittering the tongue.
My only protection was a list of things to buy covering my face whenever there was a slight view of these monstrous beasts.
[conclusion]
Looking forward the inventions of men, oh how I wish I could live to the day where commuting is not as sufferable as this. Alas I only hope it upon later generations to be grateful to have what they have that day.
Hrmm.. I havent write for quite a while. A bit rusty in the thinking box, grammar and spelling department too!
Explorer Exposed!

Internet Explorer version 5 or above (not IE 7) have all kinds of weird css bugs. You want proof? I’ll give you the damn proof! HERE!
Its a bit tiresome really, accomodating IE 5/6 and Firefox both. It doubles the workload, it strains my fingers… and my brain of course. So do us web developers a favour and use firefox.

At last finished something, PNG transparency.

I think i’ve finished it, I came to the office early in the morning just to finish it. myblog.com.my will be one of those stepping stone for us.
PNG transparency for IE5, got me occupied for like 30 minutes. Its not implementing it that was hard, it was the path for wordpress that got me confused a bit. Take your time and do it. This method is far more easier than the filter:DX thing.
So.. moving on, some stuffs just landed, a job for linux support and a flash website with php backend. Its been a long time since I’ve used flash. I dont know, maybe I can weave something out of this…
I guess its just you and me, Halaster

Two weeks passed by, I’ve done lots of things. Things I think that should be weight in gold. But, no, I didnt get anything, except for knowledge and fatigue.. which affects the mind and the body. Still, I’ve been through worst… In my college days, I’ve been doing work and assignments most of the time alone (about 90% of the time). I did 5 java projects and 3-4 vb final projects PLUS my final project coded in python. That just counts the last couple of months of my days in college. *sigh* It was gruesome, nearly broke me down… nearly… I took a long walk to shrug it off.
Now, there’s a new problem. You see… I must make something out of this thing that I made, it is an online registration thing. It still have its flaws, there’s a limit on what one man can do. Aiieee.. so, I made it till most of its functions are completed, prepare a platform to write documents on, to write documents collaboratively with my colleagues… but the problem is.. NO ONE WRITES ON IT BUT ME! So urm, I thought to myself.. its just ok.. I’ll try to write it as much as I can, as frequent as I can… the more there is, the faster I’ll get it out there.
There’s also myblog.com.my, and my business plan thing.. I must hurry with my project, things are going to get sour soon, in 4-5 months I think. I need to start RIGHT NOW! So.. about the business plan thing, I really dont know how to write it, what to expect… I’ve read a lot, still I’m not sure what to put. The market research thing.. financial considerations… etc. So hard to run a one man show… I think its dangerous to run a one man show, the outcome of the show could break someone. Enough whining and ranting.. OFF TO WORK!
So anyway, this is Halaster Blackcloak. He’s completely insane. But still there are times where he slips back to sanity. I just googled on him, there was a very interesting discussion about him. Elminster goes to Hell is quite a book, it mentions him a couple of times, I think he’s one of the main characters (other than Elminster of course).
I got carried away by Halaster. I read a little bit about Halaster that leads to Larloch that leads to Iouloum and Vhostym. Larloch and Iouloum are both archwizard of the netherese era. I dont know much about Vhostym. Except he’s in the Midnight’s Mask book or something, I’ll have to check it out later.
