Goals.. swallowed by time

Today i didnt do much. I wrote a few emails, configured a few users in the HRMS and read a lot, argue with an MMU student, which is normal.
They think i’m “berlagak” and “macam bagus”. Well.. they can think what they want (even though it is my fault for intimidating and erm.. other things). Oh well, i can be nice and be quite a nuisance if i want to. And.. she (feura_iml) broke her promise of paying me today!
Bought a book yesterday. Write Great Code by Randall Hyde. Even though reading it is tedious. It does gives a few insight.
At first i thought of buying another book, Code Optimization by Kapersky, but a review changed my mind. I’m gonna buy Joel on Software instead. Read about his experience in this industry could give me a few edge that i required.
Hrm.. Other than that, i’m thinking of writing a module for accessing databases (SQLite, MySQL, Access) for VB and maybe for Python too, so that i can rapidly cook up an application whenever i need. Maybe tomorrow i’ll do that.
Browsed a few sites about application security, mostly web application, because its the “thing” in this information age. Accessing information, communications anywhere possible. hehehe. I visited OWASP, Ounce Labs, and visit a few sites about code optimization. A node in perlmonks.org is quite interesting. There’s also a discussion about Python/C at joelonsoftware.com. Python performance tips, optimize perl.. and other sites which i have forgotten about. hehe.
I took some little time that i have updating HRSC’s documentation site. It’s a wiki thing using MediaWiki. Quite nice. Encourages collaboration and centred to it, not like all the memos being sent through email which i have to scrouge my mailbox to find it back.
Confucius said, “A fanatic is one who redoubles his efforts while losing sight of his goal.”
Oh my. I wouldnt want that. I’ll be heading to mph, buy Joel on Software and head home to read, and think about my goals.
Baffled.. Confused.. rejuvenated.

Been a quite some time since I posted. *shrugs*
There’s lots of things happened. The boss pay little.. i retaliated with my stupid attitude.. got a little discussion with the boss and things go quite well after that. The talk lifted my spirit.. almost to 80%. Yeah.. i’m more focused now.
I’m sorry to say, the Faraid System that I tried to make for a mmu student goes by nickname fizlah has failed. Maybe its me.. maybe its them.. but who knows. the truth shall remain hidden. Haha!
I was up and running with the mambo that i setup for safura. Yeah.. mambo is nice. Nicer than phpNuke!
Nothing much that i can think of now. Hope i can think more things to put tomorrow. I’m going back in a little while. Stay home.. read books.. ahh… thats what i’m talking bout. Sore - ja
Drowned in CMSes
Posted by Khairul - March 9, 2005 at 05:03:00 pm - 2 CommentsCategories: Uncategorized
Uh.. back hurts. Arrived home at 7.00am++.
Took bath and went to eat fat rice. What? There’s no fat rice! Of course there is.
Slept until 1.00pm. Arrived at office at 1.40pm something like that.
CMS = Content Management System (famous one is PHPnuke and erm.. other thing)
As usual. Sit down at my table.. thinking what i’m going to do first. The first is chat with other people! yeah. But no one wants to chat :(. so.. me surf.. look at thingies. Preity thingies. CMSes. Plone, Webgui, Mambo and many more. There’s also a site which provide matrix for comparing varieties of CMSes. Also stumbled upon Common Group’s CMS Comparison article. Didnt know that there were so much stuffs related to CMSes like this on the web until now. Its like i’ve opened a new door / window. Damn! The view is soooo vast. Yeh, like that.
I got a new site. thanks to.. a friend of mine. It provides a service to send emails with attachments with maximum size of 1GB! called YouSendIt.
I’m going to do some work. And i think i’m gonna go home early.. we’ll see.. we’ll see…

Be strong, nanie! Shikari!
On 5th march,
Arrived home at 8am, went out for breakfast and went to bed. Woke up at .. 12 noon and started my activity at 2pm by going to One Utama. Went to the electrical store thing and looked at all the mp3players. I decided to get myself one. Paid rm499 for it. A slight regret started to form but i shrug it off. Arrived at the office at 5.00 pm. Ciknana(senior developer) and zam (sleeping) is already in the office.
The first thing i did was opened my mp3player’s box (like children excited with new toys) and read the manual a little bit. Install the software that came with the cd. Downloaded the firmware and updated the firmware on the mp3player. After updating the firmware.. the Music Manager that came with the player didnt detect the player. I was starting to think something went wrong, the firmware update has failed! ARGH! NoooOOooooo.. but i didnt fall to my knees just yet. I interrogated google for answers! I’ll be damn if i spent 499 on something and it doesnt work!
After about 1 hour of searching.. i realized that, that the firmware update version will not be compatible with the Music Manager (on the pc). The player have become a portable usb storage, so i just need to copy the files there. *fuh*
6th March,
Didnt accomplish much. Modified a little bit and added a little bit of something to the FaraidSystem. Other than that.. watched OnePiece and played Star Wars: Kotor2.
Current,
Surfed up freshmeat and found a nice web application called OpenEMR. Could worth something if implemented here in malaysia for medical institutions.
My mind suddenly blanks.
Anyway.. here are a few quotes about wisdom.
- In seeking wisdom, the first step is silence; the second, listening the third, remembering; the fourth, practicing; the fifth, teaching others.
- By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest. ~ Confucius
- The wise man doesn’t give the right answers, he poses the right questions ~ Claude Levi-Strauss
- Wise men hear and see as little children do. ~ Lao Tzu
- Wise men learn more from fools than fools from the wise. ~ Cato
Thats just about it. I’m going out and find something to eat ON 6.20 AM!! HAha! Sore - ja
Tired.. sleepy

Yes.. its 6.53am. AND I’M STILL AT THE OFFICE. Heh.
Yesterday.. 4th March, did nothing great. Starting to do some real-work, modified a few codes.. copy and pasted a few codes.
Other than that, I read up on The Art of Developer Resume on developer.* (developer dot star). Quite nice read for me. Most of the articles that i’ve read so far there is quite nice. I also read comments for the article.
My ex-office mate called and told me that he managed to get Apache + PHP and Mantis Bug Tracking system. I taught him how to use netstat, edit php.ini, and modifying apache’s httpd.conf the day before that. He also asked me how to reset windows XP administrator’s password. Long time ago when I was still in college, I used to use Winternal’s Admin something.. that have lots of nice tools. You boot up the winternal’s created cd and use up the tools. One of the useful tools is Locksmith. Anyway, before this I also used NT Password something, to reset his (my ex-office mate) pc’s password when he was working with me. Well all of those are not withing my reach now, so I googled and found a nice site. Emergency Boot CD! its open source too.
Cleaned up my Gmail’s inbox. Labeled it all nice and cozy. Its easier on the eyes to see 4 item in mailbox rather than 53.
I’m going back home. Later on this day, i’ll be searching for mp3player, one with the usb thingy. and maybe continue all the vb application that i’m building. STILL I dont feel busy or any of that crap. Flexible like a yoga master. Heh. Sore-ja
Behold! Khairul Liber Arcana! TIPS O RAMA!
Posted by Khairul - March 3, 2005 at 01:03:00 pm - No CommentsCategories: Uncategorized
Tips:
- When you visit some website.. there’s an icon besides the URL at the address bar. How do they do it? (Somehow I forgot what its called either). Well.. its an icon.. that were pointed by tags between ! Even the website with the solution didnt mention what its called. If you didnt notice. I have already done it. Just a bit rusty.
- I’ve come into lots of problems… lots of annoyances that can be solved.. if I know what to look for. Fear no more! For I have stumbled upon a nice section at devshed.com called 10-Minute Solution. Also.. my favourite reference, Annoyances.org.
Thats it for the meantime. Sore - ja
Trying to get IDS up and running..
Posted by Khairul - March 3, 2005 at 06:03:00 am - No CommentsCategories: Uncategorized
If I somewhat forget what an IDS is.. its called Intrusion Detection System. First before being able to fully utilise snort.. I have to install winpcap (Windows Packet Capture Library). Used to install it at home in Alor Star to use Ethereal when I was doing a packet dissassembler program using C++ for some MMU student. I wonder what happen to that source code.. hrmm..
Found some interesting collection of links at a cd for book link. I also found some interesting application called ATK (Attack Tool Kit) which was listed under SecurityFocus.net’s tools section (also under win2k). Apparently ATK is a combination of Nessus security scanner and metasploit (exploit framework of some sort) and was built using Visual Basic. hehe.. see? its not so bad. Good for RAD (Rapid Application Development) which delphi is good for too.
Since i’ll be scratching the surface of security thingamajig of the computer world, I’ll to do some md5 checking of things I download.. certain things. I downloaded FastSum, a command line md5 utility (which not what i wanted, i wanted a GUI based, and simple to use) and another one called winMd5sum (exactly what i wanted) and also its source in case i have to implement a system that uses Md5.
Soo much things.. to read. Eyes tired. Cappucino! Show me your might!!
